media assignment
For my final project I intend to shoot a thriller. I chose to do a thriller because there is a very wide variation to what i can do with it because there is a large number of categories within this genre. I am unsure of what type of thriller I am to shoot yet but I am leaning towards horror.

conventions
A convention is like a stereotype of a film such as in a western film there would be a stranger coming into town that the local gang doesn't like and then there would be a stand-off which the stranger would win and then walk off into the sunset.

Rule of thirds
with rule of thirds the objective is for the film or photograph to be more aesthetically pleasing. if something is centred then it will be a bit boring and standard but as soon as you move it out from the centre maybe using a grid you can immediately see that there is an edge to it.
180 degree rule
The 180 degree rule is the rule that indicates that if you go over a 180 degree line you start to confuse the audience making it seem as if the characters have swapped positions. The one way in which it is possible cross the line is if you cross it slowly while rolling the camera to let the audience know the camera is on the opposite side. Below there is a short film clip demonstrating this rule.

Hitch-opening scene
The opening scene is narrated by Hitch (Will Smith) to demonstrate to the audience that his job is to help men go out with any woman they want in this romantic comedy. This scene prepares the audience for the rest of the film and gives them a fuller understanding of it. Because of the narration and the way he dresses the audience can immediately tell that he is portrayed to be a man who is very much in control.
This scene is about a wrong number phone call that turns out to be someone outside the main characters house who kidnaps her boyfriend and kills him after she answers a question wrong. This film lets the audience discover how it is that the killer is introduced and that he wants to remain anonymous, which creates a mysterious atmosphere. There was a great use of the house within this opening scene, going forwards and backwards through out the scene keeping the audience alert and on their feet.
